280: Eye spy trouble
I have a permanent eye problem known as 'dry eye'. This means the tear duct in one eye is not working and does not moisten and clean my eye. This is a relatively minor problem and my beans address it by putting ointment in my eye every day. Except for the cost of the ointment, this is not a problem for me or them. (As the ointment is required every day of my life now snd going forward, the costs do mount up … but I'm worth it!)
The problem is that this dry eye condition means I am more vulnerable to other eye problems - like infections - and I have one of those at the present. Though my eye is 'dry', when infected it is rather efficient at producing 'gunk'. So now in addition to the daily ointment, I need my eye bathing regularly (to clear the gunk) and I need drops in the eye - again daily - to clear the infection and hopefully stop the production of the gunk.
I am also suffering at present from an ear infection and have ear drops in my ears daily - as well as some cleaning/soothing lotion applied.
None of this is particularly serious but it is a rather inconvenient - and somewhat unpleasant regime.
Jacky - for it is she who administers all of the potions and liquids - is very patient with me - as I am with her. John is 'assistant to…' lifting and holding my head to make it easier to apply the drops and ointments. John is not to be trusted with the actual application as (according to Jacky) he would only make a terrible mess of himself - and me
I hope my Infections clear up quickly- and do not re-occur. I hate to be o a burden and I worry in case the beans think I am costing them too much - money and effort. However, there is nothing I can do except accept the burden as my (hopefully temporary) fate. (I am a fatalist - so do not worry over things I have no influence over.)
If I remember, I will update you on progress with my treatment. However, I hope that there are too many exciting developments in my life for me to remember. These infections should just fade way in all - and to all - senses.
Thanks for listening. I know his has not been a particularly uplifting - or even interesting - blog post…. but if I am going to chronicle my life, I have to include the mundane and the trivial along with the occasional excitement and spectacle.
