290: Normality?
This was probably a normal week - but I can't really remember what normal looks like.
Certainly I have had all my morning walks in the park (thank you, John) and all my evening walks searching for windfall fruit around the estate.
(Incidentally, it is amazing how rarely we have to cancel any of these morning/evening walks due to inclement weather.Considering the weather in the UK is normally described as highly changeable snd 'poor', we do alright.
Of course we get wet grass in then parked and - at this time of year - slippery leaves on park paths, but nothing that stops us from venturing out. (Thank goodness we don't live in Jamaica.)
It must have been a normal week because I can't think of stand out incidents - which is the way I like it …. oh, of course, except for having lots of kids in strange costumes ringing the doorbell and asking for 'Trick or Treat'. Like most people we keep a tin of chocolate-based treats ready for this annual ritual -but I know John would like to give a 'trick' sometime and see what would happen. Why doesn't he ? Jacky would never forgive him for traumatising the neighbourhood kids. So, he smiles gently and proffers the tin of treats as many rapacious hands descend on it. I don't think he really enters fully into the spirit of it because I know he thinks of it as a second rate American import tradition, rather than one of our own. Perhaps it's just his age - he's becoming a grumpy old man.
So, I've settled down this week - and I'm looking forward to a few weeks of this normality.
